Actually Bonnilein was not planned!! For years we have had a Berner Sennenhund. Now one of them had died again and in the whole house there was a wailing and sobbing and nowhere a new Berner to be found. At the breeders there were enough litters but all the puppies were already promised. So we considered the Newfoundlands. And in the North, in the Friesenland – behind the dike – there was one for us. Relieved and happy we accepted. In the same evening we got a phone call from Family Ertel from the Schwabenland that one of the customers had withdrawn from the contract and so one of the Berner puppies was free for us. We pulled a long face and then we made a decision: does it make a difference if you have one or two big ones? NO! So in summer ´94 we got a little Berner- and a few days later a little Neufi-girl. The two loved each other dearly and grew up like twins. Unfortunately the Berner died very early from cancer and left not only a totally unhappy Bonni. So compen-sation was needed. And this compensation was called Laura and came from Italy.
