Clärchen & Danah - Danah

Clärchen

She was our fist Basenji! And she taught us the fear right away since we had not the slightest idea what could go on in such a little Basenji-head. She was very quick – in doing nonsense. But she developed into a very superior Basenji-lady. She had her show successes and brought us our first Basenji-litter. She became my best friend and accompanied me everywhere. When I had to send her to the journey over the rainbow bridge in 1999 she left a gap which no one was able to fill until today. I miss her very much.

Danah

She was the younger sister of Clärchen and came to us as the second Basenji. She was THE hunter in the squad! Nothing was safe from her, neither our cats, the rabbits of our sons, our cock “Hannibal” nor the squirrels in the forest. Sometimes she was some kind of a strain. But she also was a perfect mother and took exemplary care of her litters, the B – C – and D litter of the Brassica´s.

Her great passion – the guzzling – became her fate. She ate something poisoned in the park and could not be saved.

There we had the two beautiful Basenji-girls now we also wanted a male dog and it had to be a tricolour one. Such a dog has not yet been available in Germany at that time! I got information through Basenji-magazines and got in touch with Susan Coe, one of the best-known breeders in the USA. And she sent us Speedy “Akuaba´s High Flying Dawn-Ri”. He became the father of all our “Brassica´s”.

In 1999 he went over the rainbow bridge, too.

I STOOD BY YOUR BED LAST NIGHT

I stood by your bed last night,
I came to have a  peep.
I could see that you were crying,
You found it hard to sleep.

 I whined to you softly
As you brushed away a tear.
“It´s me, I haven´t left you,
I´m well, I´m fine, I´m here.”

I was close to you at breakfast,
I watched you pour the tea.
You were thinking of the many times
Your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today.
Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels,
I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today,
You tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you,
That I´m not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house,
As you fumbled for your key,
I gently put my paw on you,
I smiled and sat “it´s me”

 You looked so very tired,
And sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know,
That I was standing there.

 It´s possible for me,
To be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty,
“I never went away”

 You sat there very quietly,
Then smiled, I think you knew …
In the stillness of that evening,
I was very close to you.

The day is over … I smile and watch you yawning
And say “goodnight, God bless,
I´ll see you in the morning.”

And when the time is right for you
To cross the brief divide.
I´ll rush across to greet you,
And we´ll stand, side by side.

I have so many things to show you,
There is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out …
Then come to be with me.

He was a "very proud spanish dog" - one day is sat in our garden with a bloody open neck! At this time he was neary 6 month and he stayed with us more than 15 years! We had a lot of fun together and he went every time happy to spain when we drove back - he was always the first in the car!
